HILARY SAYS REVIEW:
REN Ready Steady Glow Daily AHA Tonic claims to exfoliate, brighten, tighten and hydrate for a smooth, even and energized complexion, whilst being gentle enough for daily use.It is formulated with AHAs - Lactic Acid and Sodium Lactate (a salt of lactic acid). They are chemical exfoliants that resurface dull skin by dissolving the glue that holds dead skin cells to the surface. It can help improve skin texture, uneven skin tone, sun damage and general signs of aging. Although it doesn’t state the percentage of lactic acid used, I’m suspecting it's about 5% (which is a good percentage for everyday use). It contains Willow Bark Extract as BHA salicylic acid but unfortunately Willow Bark extract and salicylic acid are not the same thing, nor do they have the same beneficial effect on skin. Willow bark extract is more of a skin-soothing agent.
It contains other beneficial ingredients:
- Sodium Lactate (mentioned above) is also a humectant, which draws water molecules to keep the skin hydrated and plump.
- Heptyl Glucoside aids the penetration of active ingredients.
- Potassium Azeloyl Diglycinate (Azelaic Acid derivative): skin refining and brightening.
The only downside of this tonic is that it contains known sensitizing fragrance ingredients. AHAs generally can be sensitizing (cause irritation), also the pH of products with AHAs need to be low for them to function properly; so, the combination of low pH and AHA is already quite sensitizing for the skin, adding sensitizing fragrance ingredients is unnecessary. If you have sensitive skin, I won’t advice you to use this product; it might cause issues in the long run.
