HILARY SAYS REVIEW:
Herbivore Prism claims to leave skin exfoliated, feeling smooth, and looking glowing. It also claims to contain 12% AHA blend and 3% BHA.
AHAs are Alpha Hydroxy Acids like Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid, Malic Acid, Mandelic Acid, Tartaric Acid and BHAs are Beta Hydroxy Acids like Salicylic Acid. Unfortunately, this serum doesn’t contain any of these in their pure form, instead it contains extracts of the plants they can be derived from – which is quite deceptive.
This serum contains Sugarcane Extract, Bilberry Extract, Sugar Maple Extract, Willow Bark Extract as the AHAs and BHA. Yes, Glycolic Acid can be derived from Sugar Cane, Lactic Acid can be derived from Bilberry, Malic Acid can be derived from Sugar Maple Extract e.t.c but they are not the same thing, nor do they have the same beneficial effect on skin. However, it does not mean that these ingredients are completely useless – sugarcane and sugar maple extracts are good hydrators, and willow bark extract is known for both its antioxidant and skin-soothing properties.
If you want an exfoliating serum, I won’t be recommending this one. It can work for hydration and skin soothing.
