HILARY SAYS REVIEW:

The Genifique Youth Activating Serum is a very well known serum by Lancôme.  It claims to be “a fast-acting anti-aging serum that reveals smoother, more radiant skin in as little as 7 days”. It also claims so improve skin’s key signs of youth: radiance, elasticity, firmness, skin-tone and smoothness. These are pretty huge claims. To be honest, cosmetic regulators should not allow brands use words like “youth activating”, it is so misleading!

The main ingredient in this serum is Bifida Ferment Lysate – a probiotic (Same as Estée Lauder Advanced Night Repair), which has very limited studies to indicate it has anti-aging properties. One study shows that probiotics can help improve skin barrier functions, have antioxidant properties and mild peeling effects, but no evidence that that they have anti-aging effects. So it is certainly not the miracle elixir of youth that Lancôme makes it out to be.

The only other beneficial ingredients in this serum are Ascorbyl Glucoside (a form of vitamin C – antioxidant) and Sodium Hyaluronate (a humectant – draws water molecules to the face to make it look plump). That’s it! For real, that’s all you’re getting from this serum. Ok, there’s Dimethicone in it, which is a silicone that can make fine lines, and wrinkles look smaller by filling them in (only temporary, once the serum comes off, the wrinkles will still be there). Quite disappointing! Lastly, the level of alcohol in this serum is quite high, so if you have sensitive skin, you should not be using it.
