HILARY SAYS REVIEW:

This is Kiehl’s #1 best-selling product! It claims to “visibly restore skin overnight for more radiant skin by morning; improves firmness and visibly smoothens skin’s appearance”. Another claim – ”It works by enhancing your skin’s natural night-time recovery process”. Beauty brands need to stop making “nighttime recovery” claims as it is nonsense; the skin repairs itself around the clock!

It states that its key ingredients are Evening Primrose Oil, Squalene and Lavender Essential Oil. Evening Primrose Oil is rich is Omega-6 fatty acids which are important for the maintenance of our skin’s barrier to help reduce trans-epidermal water loss therefore keeping the skin hydrated and plump. Fatty acids along with Ceramides and cholesterol form the 3 major lipids found in the outer layer of the skin. It is the barrier that helps protect the skin. Squalene is a natural component of the skin, so the skin recognizes it and absorbs it quickly without leaving a heavy residue like most oils. It is a great emollient and super moisturizing. Lavender Oil, on the other hand, will do more harm than good to the skin; it is a known skin irritant (especially for sensitive skin), along with rosemary, coriander oils and some other fragrant ingredients in this product.

This product has many good aspects, especially the various beneficial oils in it; my only issue is the number of skin irritants and the concentrations. If your skin is resistant and tolerates everything, you can go for it; but note that daily use of products that contain high amounts of fragrant components can lead to skin issues in the long run.
