In 1995, Mathilde and her husband, Bertrand Thomas created Caudalie and became the pioneers of luxury vinotherapy. Recognising that vines, grapes and seeds contain multitudes of antioxidants and anti-aging properties, they became one of the earliest developers of resveratrol, now a skincare staple seen in many Caudalie formulas.

HILARY SAYS REVIEW:

The VinoPerfect Complexion Correct Radiance Serum is one of Caudalie’s staple products. It claims to correct dark spots and prevent them from reappearing, even out skin tone and enhance the complexion’s radiance. I’m looking at the ingredients list and looking at all these claims right now and I’m very confused as to how these ingredients will make these claims happen. Let’s go through the ingredients one by one.

Water – Solvent

Butylene Glycol & Glycerin – Humectant (attracts water molecules for hydration)

Squalane – Great moisturizer (mimics your natural sebum)

Tocopheryl Acetate (a form of vitamin E) – Antioxidant and Skin conditioning agent

Ceteareth-20 – Emulsifier (helps oil and water mix)

Palmitoyl Grapevine Shoot Extract (The Star Ingredient)

Glyceryl Stearate SE – Emulsifier

Bisabolol – Skin Soothing Agent (anti-inflammatory properties)

Fragrance

Caprylyl Glycol – Skin Conditioning Agent

Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer – Emulsifier

Potassium Sorbate – Preservative

Xanthan Gum – Thickener

Carbomer – Thickner

Sodium Hydroxide – pH adjuster (to neutralize carbomer)

Sodium Phytate – Chelating agent (pretty much preserves the product)

This formula is so basic that it’s actually upsetting! They didn’t even try to put other fancy antioxidants or active ingredients; everything is just bleh….for that price tag! The “star ingredient” according to them – Palmitoyl Grapevine Shoot Extract (Vitis Vinifera Grape Seed Extract) has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains high levels of Resveratrol, which will help reduce oxidative stress (skin damage) caused by free radicals but it sure won’t correct dark spots or even out skin tone at that level, even if it could. It’s only the Caudalie website that claims to have research that proves it can correct dark spots, but we know any company can come up with all sorts of claims and “research” to back the claims. The star ingredient is 7th on the ingredients list, which shows it’s there at a very low percentage so the overall percentage of resveratrol in the formulation will be quite low. I checked the comments of grape seed extract, nothing else stands out that can clear dark spots.

This is brand has greenwashing written all over it! Their website is has “no prarabens, phenoxyethanol, mineral oils, paraffin….”, “plant derived” e.t.c. This product is definitely not worth it.
